GENERAL AREA CONDITIONS

Cool weather has been a treat for both the angler and trout. Area waters are fishing okay. Small mayflies (tricos, caenis, and various Baetids) are around and about as are some caddis but it is mostly a terrestrial affair. Ants, hoppers, yellow jackets, and beetles. Crowds are starting to thin as school starts, but for real solitude (and better fishing) make the effort to get into the high country.

ANNUAL YUBA CLEANUP
The South Yuba Citizens League (SYRCL) is holding its 7th annual Yuba River cleanup on September 18 from nine to noon. Thrre will be trash collection sites throughout the entire Yuba River watershed. A free lunch, raffle and music by the Kipchogee Spencer band will follow. Volunteers must pre-register! Contact Kayle @ 530-265-5961 (extension 201) or send email to kayle@syrcl.org

RIVERS
Truckee River

Flows Lake Tahoe to Prosser Creek | Flows Boca to Nevada

Current flow: 50 cfs. Optimal fishing flows are around 300 cfs.

Very low flows to Boca. Small mayflies and caddis hatching but the big news is that crayfish are molting frequently and trout want them. Try one of Tim’s patterns (at Truckee River Outfitter) or a goblin dead drifted off the riffles into the deeper pools. Little yellow stones and E/C caddis drifted into the shadows are picking up the random fish. Water has cooled over the past week but warm weather is predicted to reappear. Go subsurface during the day or try terrestrials such as ants, beetles and hoppers. Backcountry is fishing very well.

Little Truckee River
Stampede to Boca Reservoir: Little Truckee Flows
Current flow: around 50 cfs, optimal fishing flows are around 150 cfs.

Fishing is predictable at low light but tough the rest of the day. Small mayflies and attractors are good – the smaller the better. After sun hits the water fish will likely duck down and prefer small nymphs (hang a PT or soft hackle underneath a Stimulator). Evening fishing has been sporadic.
Same as above.
