| I used to carry any number of specific hopper patterns. They all worked well enough but not nearly as well as they should have. One of our fly suppliers accidentally shipped us a dozen Madam X's. Since then it, and Kaufmann's Stimulators, are usually the only hopper and big stonefly patterns I ever need to use. As an exploring pattern the Madam X is one of the best. It floats well, is easy to see and best of all, it is one of the easiest patterns to skip under overhanging vegetation. | |
